“Showing Up” (Day 8)

Verse of the Day

Micah 6:8 – “What does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”

I was born in 1933 and raised in Dyer Brook, Maine, in a home where family was always close. We lived together—parents, grandparents, and often relatives who stayed for days or weeks. People came and went freely, and everyone was welcome. That sense of belonging shaped my life.

I grew up near the little Baptist church on the hill, where I went to Sunday school. I never had a favorite hymn, but my father loved It Is Well with My Soul. Over time, that quiet message stayed with me.

After high school, I served in the military and later worked in different places before returning to Mars Hill. One ordinary Saturday at the gas station changed everything. A young woman named Joan came in for help with her father’s car. I fixed it, called her later, and before long we were married. We both worked at Loring Air Force Base and raised six children in ten busy years.

Life was full and sometimes hard. We worked, trusted each other, and stayed committed. Watching our children grow was one of our greatest joys. In 1965, I made a personal change and quit smoking, choosing a healthier path. That decision reminded me that change is possible.

My faith journey showed up in simple ways. For many years, I cared for the church building—tending the furnace, shoveling snow, and making sure people felt safe and welcome. It wasn’t for recognition. It was my way of serving.

There were painful seasons too—loss in our family, struggles our children and grandchildren faced, and difficult adjustments along the way. But we kept showing up for one another. We believed in second chances and steady love.

Looking back, my life has been about quiet faithfulness—working hard, caring for family, serving the church, and living with integrity. Through every season, I’ve learned that a faithful life is built one day at a time. – Blinn Boone

Thought for the Day

Where is God calling you to simply show up today, and what is one small, faithful action you can take there with care and consistency?
